Journey to Bethlehem--in Pflugerville
My friend Heidi is directing "Journey to Bethlehem" at the Pflugerville Community Church this Friday and Saturday night. She asked me to post info about the event here---and I'm happy to do so!! It's wonderful. We take our family every year and highly recommend it. http://www.facebook.com/notes/journey-to-bethlehem-2010/journey-to-bethlehem-press-release/119067418146815

Sweet Target Deals
I just got EZ two books for his Tag Reader at Target for $5 total. Right now certain titles are $9.99 and all of the titles are buy one get one free this week. So I bought 2 for $10 and then I used a $5 off coupon that I got here http://www.learnonthegosweepstakes.com/ and so it was just $5 for both.
Also Target has the Little People Nativity for $14.99 this week. It is usually $27.99 and it is awesome so you should get it. You should check online or caqll the store to see if it is in stock before you go because some stores are already sold out.
Going to the Movies During the Thanksgiving Break?
Did you see the deal on movie tickets?? (Marie Tidwell told me about it!)
I don't know if you're taking your kids to go see the new Disney "Tangled" or not (Harrison and friend went and saw a sneak peak of "Tangled" last week in 3-D and said it was really fun)..here's a good way to get movie tickets for cheap.
You buy 2 general mills cereals (specially marked packages) and use GM cereal coupons (like those on coupons.com) for around a $4 total at Target, Wal-Mart, etc. for the 2 boxes.
You enter the codes from the cereal boxes at http://new.emoviecash.com/gmills/code.php?eng and it sends a movie pass to you printer. The pass pays for up to $12 of a movie ticket including "no pass and no coupon" movies.
I thought it was a pretty good deal since you get a movie ticket plus 2 boxes of cereal for around $4.

Apples
The Mercantile at Dyer Dairy in Georgetown has apples for 50 cents per pound. There are Gala and Cameo apples straight from the tree. They aren't going to be as pretty as the apples we buy at the store, but neither do they have herbicides, pesticides, or any of that waxy stuff on them. I just picked up our milk there and the apples smelled soooooo good. Just thought I'd share the info. You do need to bring your own boxes. Store hours are M/T/Th/F/S from 10-7, and Sunday from 1-6. Address is 7801 E. Hwy 29, G'town. Phone is 512-638-0415. Web site is www.DyerMercantile.com

Free for you!
This saturday i'm having a get this stuff out of my garage sale/give away
For my friends just about everything is free, for my friendly strangers there will once again be a huge pile full of stuff that i'm not going to bother to try to sell for what ever reason. Last time this was about 50% of the stuff and it was dissapearing almost as fast as we put it out there, no clue what will happen this time but i'm sure there will be plenty. We are going to start as bright and early as we can muster and keep going untill we can take no more. heh.
I will open the garage and start sorting, so I will continue to add stuff through out the day.
Does anyone have an extra folding table or 2 I can borrow? If so please let me know.
Thanks and see ya on saturday.

Kiddie Acres half price!
This is a really good deal that Free Fun In Austin posted on her blog today. She has some great stuff on there everyday so check it out at http://www.freefuninaustin.com/
I thought this one was worth double mentioning.
In celebration of their 31st birthday, Kiddie Acres is offering a $40 gift certificate (20 kiddie ride tickets, and 2 mini-golf games), for only $20. This pass will allow a family with 2 children to ride all of the attractions once and enjoy a round of mini-golf. Or kids can go on their favorite rides multiple times (the train!) and skip others. You decide how to use your ride tickets. There is no admission charge and free parking.
There are only 25 of these gift certificates available, so act now if you're interested. This offer is available from Neofill, the company that offers deals through local radio stations. Neofill will send the gift certificate through the mail, so you will need to pay $3.75 for shipping. I have used Neofill several times and, apart from the shipping charge, have been very pleased with their service. Go here to purchase your $40 Kiddie Acres Gift Certificate, for $23.75. Your gift certificate will expire March 31, 2011.
There are 4 more ways you can save at Kiddie Acres:
- Use the coupon found here. You will get 3 free ride tickets when you purchase 10 or more.
- Discount Day is Wednesday. On Wednesday, ride tickets are $1.10.
- Grandparents Day is Sunday. On Sunday, ride tickets are $1.10 when grandparents purchase them.
- Military Discounts apply every day. Show your valid military ID and you can purchase ride tickets for $1.10.

4/5 Preschool
Ladies-
Though I am not part of the Pf ward anymore, I am still closeby and close with a lot of you so I thought I would put this out there.
I am doing a homeschool curriculum this year with my son, Dallin, for preschool. I wanted to know if anyone else was interested in having their child join us. Dallin is almost 5 years old (his birthday is at the end of September) and we are toying with the idea of homeschooling him beyond preschool so we wanted to try it out this year.
I would like to open this up to 4 or 5 year olds only since the curriculum is desgined for that age group and I am basing it around my son's needs. I am using the Sonlight Pre-k 4/5 curriculum with added language arts (early K level) and Saxon math (level K, but very basic to my understanding). Sonlight is a Christian based program and does have a Bible element which uses a different Bible version....so I will be using the idea of a memory verse and scripture story, but from KJV or BOM.
This curriculum is about $600-$800 if you buy it yourself. I would be willing to do this for free if anyone is interested. You would be responsible for either buying the workbooks (about 30-50) or for making the copies of our workbook for your child to use. It would be M-TH 9-12 with optional F playday or field trip.
I plan on starting on Sept 6.
Please let me know if you are interested.
Thanks-
Valerie K.

Twin mattress wanted!
I got one! so we're good!
I'm in the market for a super cheap twin mattress. I'm keeping a close eye on craigslist as well but the great deals tends to vanish quickly.
My 14 year old brother in law is coming to stay for the summer and I can make 2 of my kids share a bed while he is here but I'd rather not. If you know of any amazing deals let me know!

Scripture Summer Reading Program
There is a great site I found through facebook friends called Scriptures 4 Kids. It has scripture stories, online games, reading charts, etc for kids to help them learn to read and enjoy their scriptures. They are doing a summer reading program sponsored by Deseret Book. If the kids read scriptures 15 minutes a day for 60 days, they can earn a $10 deseret book.com gift card. (There are also lesser reading programs available). They even have cool summer reading charts and a kick-off FHE lesson for the summer reading program.

Zilker Hillside Theater
Just wanted to pass along that Zilker's Shakespeaar in the park is now showing "A Midsummer night's Dream"
It's located in the Hillside theater area of Zilker park next to Barton Springs pool.
It will be showing Thurs, Fri & Sat evenings beginning at 8 p.m. now through May 30.
The production is free, although during intermission they usually pass along a bucket for donations. There may also be a parking charge
Haven't seen this years production yet, but they are usually worth seeing. My family loves going.
Also as a FYI:
Zilker Hillside Theater will be begin showing their summer musical production of "Annie" beginning July 9 through 30.
8:00 p.m.
The musicals usually run Fri thru Sun nights.
Don't wait til the end of the production to see this. Once word gets out, they're very popular and very, very crowded. But once again, they are worth seeing.
I suggest you get there early to set out your blanket to save a spot.
Hope to see you there

Hair ties for the 2 girls would also be helpful
Books for grades K-5

Farm Fresh Milk & Eggs
For a while now I've been getting farm-fresh, raw milk from a dairy in Georgetown. Currently the cost is $6/gallon, which is what I've paid for organic milk at the grocery store. Here's the info in case you're interested:
Dyer Dairy
7801 E. Hwy. 29
Georgetown
(512) 638-0415
www.dyerdairy.com
Mr. Dyer also has eggs, I believe at $3.50 per dozen, plus seasonal veggies, beef, etc.
Also, if you want to save 50 cents on the eggs, Pioneer Farms is selling their eggs for $3/dozen. The museum is open now Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. I usually go on Fridays to pick up eggs (and my daughter who apprentices there), so you can either go for yourself, or place an order with me. There's no guarantee on availability. The current hens produce about 12 dozen eggs per week, and the farm just got a bunch more chicks, so by summertime they'll be swimming in eggs. The web site is www.pioneerfarms.org.

Homemade Stain-Remover Spray
This recipe is from my cousin and it appears to be working just as well as the expensive store-bought stuff.
1 Cup Amonia
1 Cup Liquid Dish Soap (containing no chlorite or bleach)
1 Cup White Vinegar
1 Cup Water
Mix it all up, pour it into a spray bottle, and clean your clothes! I'm finding that the smaller spray bottles are easier to handle. I made up a gallon of this recipe a little over a month ago and I'm not even half-way through it yet - and I treat everyone's tops, etc., so it's a good bargain.

Homemade Laundry Soap
I've had requests to share this recipe - I hope someone finds it useful. I'll post a recipe for stain-remover spray as well.
HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED:
Small Batch
1/3 bar Fels Naptha (or bar soap of your choice)
1/2 cup washing soda (see note at bottom)
1/2 cup borax powder
Water
(Optional) 2-3 oz essential oil or fragrance oil of your choice
Small bucket, about 2 gallon size
Large Batch
1 bar of Fels Naptha (or bar soap of your choice)
1½ cups washing soda (see note at bottom)
1½ cups borax powder
Water
(optional) 2-3 oz essential oil or fragrance oil of your choice
Bucket, 5-6 gallon size
DIRECTIONS (large batch in parentheses)
* Grate the soap and put it in a sauce pan (stock pan for large batch)
* Add 6 cups (18 cups) water and heat it until the soap melts
* Add the washing soda and borax and stir until it is dissolved.
* Remove from heat.
* Now add 1 gallon plus 6 cups (4 gallons plus 2 cups) water to your bucket.
* Now add your soap mixture and stir.
* Let the soap sit for about 24 hours and it will (should) gel.
* Use ½ cup per load.
Note: Plugerville Wal-Mart does not have "washing" soda on the laundry aisle, just regular baking soda. HEB has the washing soda.
I've made the large batch twice now and it's lasting me about 4 months, at an average of 8 loads per week. The cost breakdown is about 2 cents per load. A great savings.

$1 Meatball Plates at Ikea
My favorite thing is back, the $1 meatball plates at Ikea. They are yummy and between the meatballs and the mashed potatoes one plate is enough for me. John eats 2, but hey for a buck I can handle that. The kiddies love them as well so it makes for quite the cheap night out. It is going on this Friday through Sunday. Maybe we will see you there!

Re: Baby Model
Actually, I'll take any infant (boy or girl) that weighs between 12 and 15 pounds who is willing to try on my dress :)
Hehe, that was a weird question. The thing is, I am making my niece's blessing dress (and she lives in Idaho) and I am, of course, doing it in typical Chontal style (which means without a pattern) and I need a baby to try it on to make sure it fits/works.
So, that said, does anyone have a 13 pound baby girl who is willing to try on my blessing dress?
Thanks,
Chontal

TomTom 140 GPS for $45.04 at Target
I saw this on slickdeals today and then went and found it at the Super Target by 685. So this is a TomTom 140 GPS and it was originally $180, but is now marked down to $45. You can also get a 2 year protection plan for $4. Not too shabby. I picked one up about 2 hours ago and there were 3 left. The guys said when they initially marked them down yesterday that they had 11, so if you are interested you really better jump on this one.

Once Upon A Child
There is a pretty good consignment store near Randall's called Once Upon a Child. Prices are okay but they pay pretty well for what you are selling to them. This Saturday they are having a sale...they will hand you a bag when you come in the store. Put as many clearance items (red slash through price tag) in the bag for only $15. Not too bad. I don't know how big the bag is, but if you even get 10 things in the bag, then that's only $1.50 each. Happy Shopping!
Evaluation Anyone?
We are flying out a specialist (and old family friend) to do an evaluation/set up a program for our Dallin. She is from Dallas. Her name is Donna Bateman and she runs Parenting with Purpose. She specializes in brain development particularly in children with special needs (brain damage, add, adhd, dyslexia, autism, etc). She has had A LOT of success (including with her own son). If anyone is interested in having an evaluation of their child done, we could set up times together so that you don't have to pay to fly her out here. The evaluation is $500, but includes A LOT. If you are interested, you can contact me for more information at valerieakellogg@gmail.com

Card Making
I have a huge family, and I like to make them all handmade birthday cards...so every January I make about 60 cards, and I thought it would be fun to make an activity out of it.
It will be next Monday, January 25th from 10:30am-12pm. Bring your supplies, bring your kids, and prepare to get lots done. (If you don't care about making cards, bring your scrapbook, knitting, whatever you want to work on, or just come as a play date.)
Just let me know if you are coming so that I can make sure to have enough work space for everybody.

Stock up on citrus --Price might be going up!
Hi Ladies: You've probably heard on the news that this freezing cold weather might have an impact on the future price of citrus (citrus futures on Wal-Street soared this week in anticipation of low supply due to the freeze).
So if you want to stock up, HEB on 685 (and perhaps other HEBs, as well) are selling 5 lb. bags of grapefruit and naval oranges for just .97 cents this week! That's not per pound--but the entire bag!! Plus, strawberries are $1.50/lb!
Just FYI! :-)

No longer supporting a missionary----
----so now everything is falling apart :)
Does anyone have or know about someone who is getting rid of their washer and dryer?
Ours is about to fall apart, and I don't know how much longer I can depend upon them.
I"m looking for a cheap deal-- as I've mentioned, there are other things around here that are also needing to be worked on or replaced.
Must be an all electric set. No gas dryers.
Thanks!!
